The medium-term goal is to create a "seniors' village" in each of the six regional county municipalities (MRCs) of Lanaudière. Cohousing concept

Cohousing, or co-housing, which originated in
In Denmark in the late 1960s, the concept was initiated by families seeking an alternative to the isolation of traditional suburbs, combining privacy with shared spaces. Current circumstances are further encouraging this concept where everyone has their own home, but all share common spaces and services.

In Quebec, two cohousing projects have been built and a third, the Lachine Village in Montreal, will soon be completed. Four projects are currently under development: Nidazo in the Eastern Townships, Cohabitat Gaspé, La Friche and the Cohabitat Village VITAL, a solidarity cooperative in Lanaudière. A first project will be carried out shortly and will include 36 private rental units and a common house, the heart of the cohousing concept.
